Handmade Christmas at the 02 anyone?

This week I have had absolutely nothing that I had to do (apart from usual shopping cleaning etc) but no appointments or family to pick up/take out etc so I have pretty much been able to sew sew sew!  It has been really relaxing and enabled me to complete my quilt top ready to start the quilting and binding next week.

I didn’t think I’d be doing any hand sewing on a patchwork quilting course but we did, we learned applique as well, and I  found it very relaxing  sitting in the garden doing some hand sewing.  Here is the finished quilt top which now needs making into the quilt sandwich!

My Wonder Block Quilt Top

I don’t know if any of you crafters who join in in Handmade Monday heard about the Folksy collaboration with the big Handmade Christmas Fair at the 02 in December??  Well I have taken a leap of faith and booked a market stall for the 3 day event!!  I am sharing the stall and the costs with my sister who is a photographer and so I am quite looking forward to it as a sister road trip as well as the selling side.  I am, however, a bit nervous of managing  a stall for 3 days on the run and also worrying if we will sell enough to make it worthwhile!   I will be selling quilts like the one above as well as my smaller items, the mobile ‘phone cases and Tablet cases and some of my jewellery.

There are concerts on at the 02 and the  fair organisers have agreed to arrange a ‘buy now – collect later’ point in the arena so that concert goers can buy things more easily.  60,000 people are expected to visit so it sounds good!

Anyway I’d be interested to know if anyone else has booked a spot and what you think are the chances of anyone buying something as big as a quilt?  Would more smaller items be better?   Please share your thoughts – any advice welcomed!!

  1. Oooh good luck with the Handmade Christmas Fair!

I don’t know when I’ll feel brave enough to go for one of the big events but I do think they are probably the way to go – nice to do it with your sister (perhaps I should talk to mine)

  2. Wow, the o2 sounds like an amazing venue, I’ll look forward to hearing more about it. I would guess that taking a mix of items would be a good idea – sales are likely to be mostly impulse buys, so that tends to be lower value items, but it’s good to show off your larger pieces to make the odd sale at the event (with luck) or for people to ponder on and contact you at a later date (take plenty of cards or flyers!). Good luck with it – I’m sure it will be a lot of fun!

  3. How very exciting but I can see why you might be a b it nervous. I am guessing that the concert goers will be very much impulse buyers but I am guessing that there will also be people coming specifically for the crafts who may be prepared to spend more so I would agree with Wendy (phew I could have got there a lot quicker!). Either way I should think that there will be a lot of making to do over the next few months. Good luck 🙂

  4. Your quilt is lovely, I like all of the different panels. I have heard about the Folksy Christmas fair, but the fees are way to rich for me plus I’d have to pay for overnight acommidation too. I hope you and your sister do well there. You’ll have to let us know.
    Have a great week.

  5. Your quilt is wonderful! And how exciting for you to be at the O2 – I think people going to such a big event would certainly be interested in bigger items such as quilts. Good luck with your preperations – there won’t be so many days where you don’t have anything that you HAVE to do now I should think xx

  6. Well done on finishing the top layer of your quilt. The colours are lovely and work really well together. What fabric will you be using for the backing?

Good luck when the time comes for the fair at the O2. Sounds very impressive xx

  7. I like the colours you have used for your quilt. It looks great. The O2/folksy stall will be an adventure! I would think probably take smaller items, but perhaps have a quilt to display, or photos and cards to pass on. Good luck, and happy sewing.

  8. your quilt top looks gorgeous! it will be great to see the project completed 🙂

how exciting to be going to be such a big event! i’m sure there will be a great atmosphere. I would say that its near impossible to predict what people will be most interested in so a good range of items seems best with extras where you can to keep your stall well stocked for all three days. I can’t wait to hear how you get on! xx

  9. What an adventure, it seems such a big step but I’ll bet it will be lots of fun, especially as you have your sister with you. I’m sure there will be plenty of people buying large items as well as small. Take plenty of cards for lots of networking.

  10. The quilt is really pretty, I love all the different details. Good luck with the Handmade Christmas event – its not far from me, I shall definitely have to come along and see it all.

  11. Certainly a good idea to have a mix of prices to attract all pockets. The footfall sounds very good. Good luck with the event – I did a three-day one last year (November) and really enjoyed myself. It was so nice to not have to take everything down at the end of the day. Hope you have a good week.

  12. What a beautiful quilt,
I think people tend to buy the smaller tings at the shows and only occasionally large items, so I would take a selection and also a couple of quilts.

Just popped over from Handmade Monday
